Powered by renewable energy
AI needs energy. And Scotland has it in abundance. And it’s clean too.
In 2024, Scotland generated 38.4 TWh of renewable electricity, the highest ever recorded. We also have vast future potential in floating offshore wind unique to Scottish waters. And that’s not all, we have 26.4 GW of additional renewable capacity in our pipeline, which is one of Europe’s largest relative to its population.
This unrivalled renewable strength underpins Scotland’s leadership in green compute, providing sustainable, lowcarbon AI infrastructure designed for the future.
Ethical, responsible AI
Fundamental to AI Scotland’s approach, and a defining competitive advantage, is a valuesdriven foundation.
Our strategy commits to:
- Align with OECD principles on trustworthy AI.
- Promote transparent, fair and accountable public sector AI use.
- Provide national data governance, supported by new datasharing programmes and secure data access frameworks.
- Engage with evolving EU and UK regulatory landscapes to ensure market access and global compatibility.
